ABOUT THE PIECE
-
Starting with a brick of wet porcelain clay, I molded the shape of the platter. Once I had it wedged into the rough shape, I began to carve out the divets and holes seen in the form.
-
This piece was inspired by the wonderful Heidi Lau. Her work delves into a mystical aesthetic that transcends reality while relying on imagery from nature.

The final product required 3 rounds of glazing. First, a layer of black underglaze was applied to the “high points” of the sculpture. Then, a combination of blue glazes were dipped and swirled around in the vessel. Finally, a lowfire luster was applied to give the piece a “wet” look, as if it were frozen droplets of rain falling onto water.
